Shop Talk: Support For Maui
Our hearts are breaking for those affected by the Maui wildfires. If you are wondering how you can help, some links and information on how to provide support are listed below:
The Hawaii Red Cross has shelters set up across Maui and Hawai'i Island for evacuees displaced by the fires. You can donate to support these shelters through its website, or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. If you have a frequent traveler account with Hawaiian Airlines, you can also donate your miles to the relief efforts of the Hawaiian Red Cross.
Hawai'i Community Foundation – Maui Strong Fund
The Hawai'i Community Foundation is accepting donations on its website through the Maui Strong Fund. The foundation has already raised $1 million to help fire victims, as reported by Hawaii News Now.
The Maui Humane Society is seeking emergency foster families to help house pets who have been lost, burned, or affected by the smoke. You can donate funds through its site, but it also has an Amazon Wishlist of supplies that will help those taking in the animals.
The Maui Food Bank provides "safe and nutritious food" to anyone in Maui County who is at risk of going hungry, and is currently accepting donations on their website. The food bank also donates food to disaster relief efforts on the island and pledges that, “with every $1 donated, the Maui Food Bank can provide four meals to the hungry people living in our island community”.
