The Metaverse has quickly become the latest buzzword, making us wrap our head around the idea that we’ll be able to exist in a virtual world that parallels our IRL lives where we’ll socialize, play games, shop, learn and even work in virtual reality. Virtual real estate in the Metaverse alone topped $500MM last year! The advancement of VR, rise of Blockchain and the pandemic have all contributed to the rapid rise of the Metaverse.
From a brand marketing perspective, what makes the Metaverse so appealing is that it reduces the traditional advertising guidelines and allows brands to place user experience at the forefront of consumer interactions. The list of brands filing trademarks in the Metaverse ranges from CVS to Nike to even Chuck E. Cheese. Retail will clearly be one of the largest sectors of the Metaverse leaving us to wonder if direct-to-avatar will be the next direct-to-consumer.
