Trend Report 8.16.22

This week, we heard from Harrison von Bargen about #CreativeDesign & #Gaming trends.

In creative design, Spotify recently revamped the look of their music streaming platform. The app’s home screen now features large stadium-shaped tabs to display your library and has also been separated into two different feeds – one for music and another for podcasts. Instagram has been implementing design changes in their app as well, most recently rolling out a 'Tall' format at 9:16, which is the same size as TikTok videos.  However, many users (even celeb Kylie Jenner) have expressed distaste of all the app’s recent changes and taken to social media to request the app return to its more simple photography roots.

In gaming, PlayStation announced a partnership with BackBone to launch a new “PlayStation Edition” of their popular BackBone One Controller, allowing players to stream games from their PlayStation Console directly to their smartphone. The PlayStation-branded device’s colors, materials, and finishes are all inspired by the design of the PS5 controller – all the way down to the transparent face buttons and its visually distinctive, floating appearance.
