Trend Report 11.1.22

This week we heard from Harrison von Bargen about #CreativeDesign and #Gaming trends.

In Creative Design, stock image giant Shutterstock just announced an extended partnership with OpenAI, which will see the AI lab’s text-to-image model ‘DALL-E 2’ directly integrated into Shutterstock in the coming months. This allows anyone with internet access to create impressive artwork in ANY style by simply entering a few key words using DALL-E 2’s algorithm. The announcement, however, was met with widespread criticism from artists whose output has been scraped from the web without their consent and used to create these AI systems. In response, Shutterstock also announced that they would be launching a “Contributor Fund” which will reimburse creators when the company uses their work to train text-to-image AI models. Gillette has also been experimenting with new technology, airing a “Mixed Reality” ad live during ESPN’s Monday Night Football broadcast. The ad utilized augmented reality to virtually alter the football stadium’s design even projecting a giant Gillette Razor into the center of the field.

In gaming, coming off last month’s trailer for HBO’s highly-anticipated The Last of Us series adaptation, Amazon released a first look image of their upcoming series adaptation of another hugely popular video game franchise, Fallout. Not much is known about the plot yet, but the series is being written by Westworld’s Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, and will star Walton Goggins, Ella Purnell, & Kyle MacLachlan.
